The painter
Verim Zendeli was born in 1984 in Gostivar, North Macedonia. He graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the State University of Tetova in 2007, and took his master's degree in painting at the University of Pristina under Zake Prelvukaj. He lives and works in Gostivar and Skopje.
The method
He builds as much as he paints. The recent work combines wood, textile and recycled material into open structures that are hung and lit, so the shadow a piece throws is part of the work rather than a by-product of showing it. Chance is left room in the making, so the finished piece is not entirely under his control.
Beyond the studio
He coordinated the International Art Symposium in Struga for nine consecutive years and has taken part in more than fifty workshops and symposiums across Europe. In 2008 he worked on the archaeological excavation at the Tetovo fortress. He has taught art since 2009, and since 2020 at the primary and high school Naim Frasheri in Negotino, Gostivar.
